1th    PACS- CUP
28-29 June 2008 , Nottwill in Switserland

Michel Wenger & Tomi Schneider

This Agility-Event was organised by Michel  Wenger and Tomi Schneider, two very enthousiast agility trainers. Since 2004 they are training active with a big group of handlers with a disability.

On fridaymorning 27 Juni, very early, we went by car to Switserland, 850 kilometers to go and next on mondaymorning, to drive back at home.....again 850 kilometers!
When we arrived in Switserland the weather was very hot.... around 30 degrees.
The location: Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwill, a very big Centre of  Rehabilitation.
They also have hotelrooms and we had booked one... never before I had  such a very  good  adapted room!

I have met Michel and Tomi on the 3e PAWC 2004 in Austria and I could encouraged them to start training para-agility.
At this moment a big group  handlers with a disability have started training and into the 7e PAWC this year in Italy will go to take part 4 teams of Switserland!

Group competitors  PAWC 2008 of Switserland:
Anne Chanez-   Michel Andrey-    Auriéle Pilet-    Martin Hostettler

It was a two-days Event.

Each Team  existed of: 1x handler with a disability, 1x child and 1x adult handler, both valid, all over 13 teams.

I was very suprised about the enthusiasm of all handlers!
I

The handlers have different  handicaps, most of them use an electric wheelchair or wheelchair by hand.

Some users of a wheelchair by hand use a special electric front-piece and so they can drive very fast and  manoeuvrable through the courses!

They are making plans to take part into the 8e PAWC 2009 in Hungary with 10 or 12 teams. They are looking for special transport (coach) for all their wheelchairs and dogs together.........GREAT!

The See-Saw, Tyre and Weaves were not in the course and the hight of the obstacles was lower then normal for the dogs in their category, because  most of the dogs need more experience

For  most of the handlers it was their first taking part into a match.

The match was judged by FCI-judge Max Heiniger from Switserland. For him it was the first time he saw para-agility and he have a lot of admiration.

Also his wife Siw was present and she have maked photo's and videos of all the competitors and send to them ..a wonderful sponsoring of them...Tanks!

Most of the dogs are even working as "assistence-dog", that gives always  more problems by training agility.

These dogs like to stay close to their companion and in the agility you need to learn the dogs to work  indepedent and go away from the handler.

This need a lot of patience and time to give the dog the trust to work by his own in the course!

Some handlers are very limited to give  commands by voice or/and  body.

But when I see how many  fun handler and dog have together,  it gives me a very good feeling..........

I'm sure.... this is the most important!!

For this Event I had  incribed with my both dogs Quita and Joep.

It was very sociable, everybody is  serious and  intensive training agility.

We have talked about a lot of thinks.
Mondaymorning we start our journey back home with a very satisfied feeling.

Here's a very big group handlers with a disability very enthusiast practice para-agility....GREAT!!

The possibility of Para-agility become more well-know, for sure in Switserland ;-)

Live of an assistence-dog is not always so bad ;-))
